A Swift Farewell Unleashes Emotional Turmoil in Explosive New Single ‘The Haunting’

Sydney’s rising emo-pop punk quartet A Swift Farewell has turned up the volume and the vulnerability with the release of their most intense single yet, 'The Haunting'. Featuring powerhouse vocals from Amariah Cook of Future Static, the track serves as both a sonic gut punch and an emotional exorcism, marking a bold step forward for the band as they gear up for their debut EP, 'Hollow Threats', due out June 6.

'The Haunting' opens with an eerie laugh track of children, plunging listeners into a sinister soundscape that quickly erupts into a barrage of guitar and heavy bass. Sarah Bonnet’s guitar rips through the intro, while Gab Michael lays down a gritty bass-line beneath Ryo Andi’s chorus and Dwayne Morris’s relentless drum patterns. It's the kind of explosive layering that fans of genre giants like Paramore and Stand Atlantic will instantly recognise and relish. But what truly elevates this track is its raw lyrical content.

The Haunting is about the fear of intimacy, It’s the anxiety that you’ll inevitably hurt the people you let in, that your trauma has made you a haunted house no one should stay in for long.”

That sentiment is driven home by Amariah’s verse, a hauntingly beautiful confession of emotional ruin that builds into the band’s heaviest breakdown to date. The final chorus, featuring harmonies between Andi and Amariah, is both devastating and uplifting.

“Working with Amariah has been an incredible experience, Her voice took this song to a level we hadn’t even imagined.”

The accompanying music video, shot at Valhalla by Viking Lounge and directed by Andi himself, switches between stark daylight and horror-inspired night time aesthetics.

“We wanted to reflect the contrast between who we show the world and what we try to hide, the bright day scenes represent energy and life, while the dark room draped in sheets becomes a metaphorical haunted house.”

To celebrate the release, A Swift Farewell is hitting the road for an East Coast tour, including dates with Bad Neighbour in Sydney and Brisbane, and a special support slot with Nightlight in Melbourne.Already championed by Triple J, Apple Music, and outlets like Alternative Press and Hysteria Magazine, the band’s upward trajectory shows no sign of slowing.

If 'The Haunting' is anything to go by, 'Hollow Threats' is going to be a cathartic and unforgettable EP.
