Abbey Lane Steps Into a Bold New Era with 'Lessons Learnt'

Sydney’s indie pop rock rising star Abbey Lane is ready to turn the page. With her new EP 'Lessons Learnt', the singer songwriter is ushering in a chapter that feels both reflective and fiercely self assured.

Known for her ability to blend intimate, emotional engaging lyricism with the energy of soaring indie rock, Abbey has spent the last decade refining her craft. The result is a body of work that not only charts her musical evolution but also captures the lessons, resilience, and grooves she’s gathered along the way.

The EP starts with a track titled after the EP 'Lessons Learnt', which instantly sets the tone for the rest of the EP. With a Poppy backtrack and emotion in every word, carried by Abbey's strong vocals, this can be also seen travelling into fan favourite 'Bigger Man', while its not as upbeat as 'Lessons Learnt', it sets more of an emotive tone, tossing up between self love and choosing to be the "Bigger Man" when it comes to love. 'Baby Steps' slows it down even more, in more of a ballad style of storytelling, with an explosion of emotion in the chorus.

Her knack for pairing emotional vulnerability with undeniable groove is no secret. Abbey’s 2024 single 'Burning Out' earned placements on Apple Music’s New Music Daily, New In Pop, and New In Alt, premiered on Music Feeds, and picked up airplay on Triple J’s 'Home & Hosed'. An earlier standout, 'Darling' from her 'Afterthoughts' EP, snagged the ASA Award for Best Folk Song of the Year.

The critical praise has followed closely behind. Comedian and musician Jordan Barr describes her voice as

“Like honey… leaping from intimate to cathartic”

while Ebony Jade calls her work

“A gorgeous, tender track that you can FEEL”

If what we heard in this EP is what Abbey Lane will be producing from now on, we can all agree it is the most cohesive and introspective collection and will only grow stronger.

Produced by multi-ARIA Award winner Dave Petrovic, the EP threads together stories of growth, heartbreak, and renewal, while keeping the irresistible rhythms that make her music as danceable as it is deeply personal.

Abbey’s journey has already taken her from intimate Sydney stages to festival crowds at SXSW Sydney, Old Bar Festival, and Rockhampton River Festival. With 'Lessons Learnt' fresh off the press. Abbey Lane has proven she’s defining a new chapter.
