Alice Ruby’s 'Cellophane' Delivers a Raw, Sonic Reflection on Truth and Self Image

Melbourne artist Alice Ruby has released her second solo single, 'Cellophane' a euphoric, grungy indie-pop single. 'Cellophane' is an evolution of sound for the young artist, exploring the distortion of identity and truth in the digital age.

Produced by AJ Bradford (Mika James, Woodes, Samsaruh) at Tender Trap Studios and featuring bassist Richard Bradbeer (Alex Lahey, Didirri), 'Cellophane' builds a rich, layered sound, all underpinned by Alice’s signature vocals.
The accompanying music video, is a visual companion piece drenched in lo-fi glamour. Directed by Eve Golja and Shari Defstoros, the clip leans into green screen surrealism, mirroring the warped realities Alice critiques in her lyrics. It’s vibrant, strange, and unmistakably hers.
Following her debut single 'December' a nostalgic ode to youth that caught the attention of Triple J 'Unearthed' and major streaming playlists, 'Cellophane' showcases Ruby’s growth as a song writer but also as a performer.
At just 21, Alice Ruby already boasts a resume that reaches beyond her years. A classically trained violinist turned alt pop explorer, she’s played in local projects including Goodbye Butterfly and Des Cortez, while also sharing stages with DICE, The Vanns, and Taxi Ride. Whether with a violin, synth, or surfboard, her time as a Phillip Island instructor is its own kind of poetic detail, Ruby brings a magnetic energy to all she touches.
The result is a track that’s as self aware as it is sonically immersive, a reflection on her own identity, illusion, and the fragments of truth we try to hold onto.
