Divers Step Into Their Boldest Era Yet With Double A-Side ‘Cruisy Confusion / Blue Paint’

The band now unveils their compelling Double A-Side; ‘Cruisy Confusion / Blue Paint’Triple J Unearthed’s Lauren Guerrera, who called the band

“One of my favourite Unearthed finds of 2025.”

While each track confidently stands on its own, together they deepen the foggy, cinematic sonic world Divers have been quietly constructing. It’s a world that will fully take shape on their debut album, planned for 2026, but for now we’re getting a tantalising glimpse.

First up is Cruisy Confusion, a track filled to the brim with grit. It features a rolling guitar riff that runs throughout, lifting the choruses while weaving that grit into every moment. I can easily see this becoming a full-rotation staple in playlists for years to come.

For vocalist Ben, the song’s confidence comes from a place of vulnerability.

“Coming into my late 20s I was going through an identity crisis, I felt like I was making music for the wrong reasons, so I wanted to make something I really liked and would listen to. The track is about confidence and genuineness as a reminder to myself.”

Releasing it, he admits, comes with nerves:

“It feels more vulnerable than the songs before it, but I like the idea of stripping back a layer and connecting more with who I am.”

'Blue Paint' sees Divers wading deeper into their own murk, embracing tension, unease, and emotional messiness with open arms. The track’s slower pace gives the lyrics room to breathe, allowing the emotion behind them to truly shine. You can feel that intensity from start to finish, making this a beautifully unbalanced piece, and one that’s easy to love for decades to come.

Lyrically, ‘Blue Paint’ captures the disarray of someone else’s orbit, the kind of relationship where the charm and the chaos are blended together. The shifting tones between verse and chorus amplify that emotional whiplash, leaving the listener suspended somewhere between tenderness and volatility.

The song’s creation, fittingly, was just as unpredictable.

“I walked in on Ben in the studio trying to work out the chorus guitars, his noodling sparked an idea and I tried my best to make the guitar sounds I heard in my head with my mouth. What he created from that caused me to nod affirmatively. I looked toward Scott sitting to my right. His head seemed to also nod (perhaps in perfect unison with mine).”

After resurfacing in October with their first new music since 2023, Divers sound revitalised tempered by an intense period of writing, but sharpened by it too. ‘Cruisy Confusion / Blue Paint’ captures the band pushing the outer edges of their own sonic boundaries, making some of their most magnetic work to date.

With an album arriving next year and a run of live shows on the horizon, Divers are gearing up for a massive new year ahead and if this Double A-Side is the prelude, the full story promises to be something special.
