Ellen May Unleashes New Nostalgic Filled Single 'Flowerbed'

Perth based emo-pop punk band Ellen May return with their latest single 'Flowerbed', filled with early 2000s nostalgia. 'Flowerbed' is the latest release in the band’s ever growing discography.

Self-produced by the band, mixed and mastered by renowned producer Kyle Black (ParamoreState ChampsThe Story So Far) and captures Ellen May’s signature blend of heartfelt lyricism and big energy.

“'Flowerbed' is about the kind of love that eats you alive. It’s messy, obsessive, and sticks with you long after it’s done. We poured all of that into the song"

'Flowerbed' follows the success of Ellen May’s debut EP 'A Lonely Way To Go', released back in March 2024, which earned international playlist adds, airplay on Triple J, and a feature on Mike Herrera’s (MxPx) podcast. Since forming, the band has supported acts like Luca Brasi and LATE 90’s, and in December 2024, the band won Pop Punk Friday's ‘Emerging Artist of the Year’, beating out 31 bands from around the globe. Ellen May continues to establish themselves as one of the most exciting emerging names in the Australian scene.

With 'Flowerbed'Ellen May dial up the grit without losing the emotional core that’s become their hallmark. Drawing influence from the raw angst of Violent Soho and the melodic sensitivity of Slowly Slowly, the track straddles that sweet spot between catharsis and chaos. 'Flowerbed' feels like a love letter to late night drives, broken relationships, and the kind of youthful burnout that still feels hopeful.

The song marks a notable shift in the band's sound, tighter, louder, and more confident. Where their earlier work leaned into melancholy and reflection, 'Flowerbed' feels more immediate. It’s a natural evolution for Ellen May, signaling a band who are not just finding their sound, but owning it.

With more new music expected before the end of the year, 'Flowerbed' positions Ellen May at the forefront of the emo punk revival in Australia. If this single is any indication, they’re just getting started.
