Goldthrone, the Launceston (Tasmania) 5 piece hardcore-rock band are back with their first studio EP 'Sunbreather'. Featuring their previous releases such as: 'Someone to Count on', 'Scale It Down', and 'Homeworld', playing it to a crowd of eager fans on the 7th of June, supported by Alien Hate Crime and Backyard Business. The EP's artwork was created by Guitarist Jack Curtin, ensuring that it resonates with their heavy ethos.
The heart and soul of Goldthrone's music lie in their poignant lyrics. Lead lyricist Tim Broxton weaves cohesive narratives that delve into the depths of human emotion. Drawing inspiration from favorite bands and personal experiences, Tim's lyrics transcend mere words, giving voice to themes such as; mental health, love, loss, and the complexities of life and death.
"The Band gives 110% on stage, whether it is to 10 people in a pub or during band practice"
The EP starts with the track 'Coldsweat', which was not previously released in their trio of singles released starting back in 2023. 'Coldsweat' encompasses what Goldthrone is all about, heavy riffs and melodic choruses. Being played at their live shows previous to release, the song resonates with patrons who have seen Goldthrone playing their headliner and supporting shows.

Coming off the back of 'Coldsweat' is 'Scale It Down', a single that was previously released in the trio of singles back in 2023. This track slows down the pace of 'Sunbreather' while maintaining the Goldthrone sound. With a slow melodic, and catchy chorus
"Break to me like shattered glass, broken up to pieces"
The track plays as a nice interchange between the heavier pieces and introduces the next track hand in hand.
'Someone to Count on' blends seamlessly from the previous track 'Scale It Down', Starting with a melodic intro, showcasing the time and effort both Will and Jack put into the architecture of instrumentals also present in previous Goldthrone songs. The song quickly becomes a staple of Goldthrone's repertoire, with a faster riff, cementing the band's classic sound. The Chorus sets a darker tone with the lyrics
"Can you save me, I don’t want to be gone"
but later on incorporates the idea of finding someone to count on, inspiring the title of the track. In a previous interview, frontman Tim Broxton mentions:
"It's also hard when people you admire and love go down a different path and they're on a trail you wish they weren't butyou can't interfere with it and just need to let them go"
We are then launched straight into Goldthrone's first-ever single release 'Homeworld'. This is the single that started Goldthrone into their growth as one of Launceston's best hardcore sounds. Lead man Tim Broxton wrote the single 'Homeworld' about the idea of being an alien from a different planet who finds themself on earth, while paying homage to its heavy themes.

The heavy nature of Goldthrone doesn't end there, new release for 'Sunbreather', 'All In Your Head' encapsulates an ever-growing sound for Goldthrone, honing in on their heavier lineage. 'All In Your Head' has to have one of the hardest choruses in all of the releases, the tone and lyricism Tim Broxton comes in within the chorus ensures this is one of the most participated songs played live:
"It's all in your head, words you never said, never-ending mess, get it off your chest"
Goldthrone has mastered the art of a buildup, slowing down the bridge to a melodic verse only to bring it back harder for the last chorus.
The final track on 'Sunbreather' is 'Time Spent', which is a nice ending for the EP, with its slower intro, it almost plays as a wind-down from the previous tracks we've heard, but still contains the heavy chorus we've grown to.
In 'Sunbreather', Goldthrone has crafted an EP that encapsulates their raw energy, melodic prowess, and lyrical depth. Each track, from the opening riff of 'Coldsweat' to the introspective closer 'Time Spent', showcases the band's evolution and their commitment to addressing profound themes through their music. The seamless blending of previously released singles with new material offers fans both a sense of familiarity and exciting new experiences. As they continue to grow and refine their sound, Goldthrone remains a force to be reckoned with in the hardcore-rock scene. With 'Sunbreather', they've not only reaffirmed their place in Launceston's music landscape but also hinted at even greater heights to come.
