Inside Good Gumnuts Festival, and a look into the future of Gumnuts

With Good Gumnuts Festival 2025 wrapped up and the latest rendition of 2026 coming in hot, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Charlotte and Harry, the creative duo behind this uniquely Tassie event.

Believe it or not, the festival started out as something completely different. Originally named the 'Anniversary Festival', it began as a personal celebration of Harry and Charlotte’s first wedding anniversary. The couple booked Kim Churchill and threw a mini music fest for family and friends in Haybridge.
The name may have changed, "Good Gumnuts" replacing the old, but the spirit stayed the same. Community, kids, cricket (yes, really, I got hit a few times), and an inviting, inclusive vibe remain at the heart of what they do.

From local gems to national headliners like Pacific Avenue, who recently topped the ARIA charts, the Gumnuts lineup is carefully curated. According to Harry and Charlotte, it’s never just about star power.
“No matter who they are, if they're great musicians and bring good vibes, they’re in"
Their artist selection process is no joke, 500+ submissions are carefully sifted through.
“We listened to every single one”
Why Burnie? not Hobart or Launceston? Simple, community roots. After outgrowing Haybridge, Burnie was a natural next step. Supported by Burnie City Council and with nostalgic memories of Cat Empire’s 'One Night Stand', Harry and Charlotte saw an opportunity to reignite live music in the area.

What began as a chill day for early campers evolved into a full-blown festival day, with Betty Taylor and Jack Davies lighting up the stage.
“We just wanted a day where we could relax and watch the music"
That decision ended up being a win win for everyone.
This year’s festival saw magic, literally (roaming magician, who, may I add, made me pull fishhooks out of his mouth), interactive art, tattoo stalls, and eco-conscious on-demand merch printing by the boys from Rivierra. Kids ran free. Parents sipped cider. And the artists brought the energy.
Charlotte mentioned potential improvements for future editions, earlier starts, more vendors (especially coffee), and better site design. But the core stays the same, authenticity, community, and top tier music with no lineup clashes.
Good Gumnuts Festival returns 6–8 March 2026!
Expect another thoughtfully curated lineup of Aussie legends and emerging Tassie stars, even more hands on experiences, and that same laid back, family first atmosphere. Rumour has it the Friday might be even bigger next time.

Each year, Harry and Charlotte open up submissions for performers through an Artist Submission Form, giving emerging talent from across the country, and especially Tassie, a chance to join the Gumnuts lineup. With hundreds of applications received annually, they listen to every single one to find musicians who bring genuine passion and originality to the stage.
