Joan & The Giants Unveil Heartfelt 'The Five Stages of Grief'

Perth alt pop powerhouse Joan & The Giants return with their most vulnerable work to date, 'The Five Stages of Grief'. The six track release charts the emotional fallout of the breakup between front woman Gracie Newton-Wordsworth and the band’s former guitarist Aaron Birch, weaving personal pain into soaring, cinematic tracks.

The EP opens with 'Feels Like Heartache', an acoustic ballad embodying denial, with its soft vocals and realism at its undertone. The anger stage follows in 'How Could You', a burst of indie rock urgency, a song steeped in bittersweet rage and unfiltered vulnerability, built with a danceable upbeat and room to reflect on the upcoming tracks.
"For a long time I felt like a butterfly trapped in a cocoon, not being able to see the light, but that is changing and I’m starting to spread my wings and find peace, joy and freedom. This EP is an embodiment of grief, love and survival, a painful chapter transformed into music and now healing."
Bargaining takes shape in 'All I Know', a slow piano led lament penned by Birch, filled with remorse and longing.
Depression is laid bare in 'When You Were Mine', a stripped back reflection on the suffocating sadness of love lost while still sharing the stage.

Acceptance arrives in two parts: 'Still Breathing', a farewell that blends percussive grit with melodic warmth, and 'Part of Me', the EP’s hopeful closer, written when Newton-Wordsworth found herself ready to move forward, wings finally unfolding.

Already acclaimed for their electrifying live performances from sharing the stage with P!NK and Tones and I to SXSW, Joan & The Giants will celebrate the release with 'The Five Stages of Grief' Tour before joining The Fray on their sold-out 20th anniversary run of 'How to Save a Life' this December.
With 'The Five Stages of Grief', Joan & The Giants prove that heartbreak, when handled with artistry and courage, can create something as timeless as this release.
