Low Monroe, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and producer Mark Sergi, has once again conjured a chilling soundscape that reflects his signature fusion of noir aesthetics and moody post-punk energy.

“It follows a modern vampire, lurking from landline to landline, with the intent to feed. However, one voice catches them by surprise, and levels of infatuation grow that conflict with hunger-related urges.”

The track contrasts starkly with Monroe’s previous release, 'Exxon Tears', opting for a grittier and less polished sound. This raw energy is largely shaped by the guitar work of Daniel "Daz" Motta, whose seedy rockabilly and 60s garage style tones set the stage for the song’s dark themes.

“Instrumentally, I wanted to compose a moody goth piece that had a slight glimmer of hope. I was struggling with the guitar part initially, but Daz came up with a catchy line that drastically elevated the song.”

Low Monroe first emerged in 2022 with the release of 'Second Try Theme', a debut that hinted at the noir-influenced, cinematic world he sought to create. Over time, the project has evolved from a solo endeavor into a growing collective. Following the release of 'Velvet Cell', Monroe enlisted musicians to form a live band, aptly named The Fugitives. Their debut performance in September 2023 marked the beginning of a new chapter, as they quickly gained traction for their immersive live shows.

Recorded in an undisclosed location, 'Deviant Hotline' was self produced, mixed, and mastered by Monroe, with Motta’s guitar work playing a pivotal role in shaping its eerie, atmospheric sound. The track continues Monroe’s journey of exploring gothic storytelling through intricate and evocative musical compositions. With praise from various underground and alternative music circles, Low Monroe has captured the attention of presenters from stations such as Triple R, 4ZZZ, PBS, and 2SER.
