Saint Victoire Wrestle With Burnout and Expectation on Dream-Born New Single 'The Mill'

Melbourne alt folk outfit Saint Victoire return with a powerful anthem for the exhausted and overextended in their new single 'The Mill'. The track is the fourth and final preview of their upcoming sophomore EP 'I Once Loved You, Summer', arriving August 7.

Led by front woman Heidi WaddellSaint Victoire blend folk lyricism with the emotional weight of soft rock and the gritty pulse of alt country.

With 'The Mill' the band taps into a raw nerve and the pressure to constantly perform, produce, and fit societal molds, even at the cost of one's mental well being.

“It doesn’t even feel like I really wrote it, It was like it was given to me in a dream, like my brain needed to say it out loud. It speaks to this exhaustion that so many of us feel, and the cycle that grinds us down.”

The song’s lyricism “Tired of the grind / A mill upon my mind” gives the listener the idea of late capitalist burnout in poetically haunting terms, set to lush instrumentation and a chorus that’s both cathartic and communal.

Produced by the band and mixed by Ethan Reginato'The Mill' follows earlier singles 'How It All Came Down''You’re Gonna Get There', and 'You All The Time'. The full EP promises a sweeping and emotional journey shaped by themes of disillusionment, shared struggle, and unexpected growth.

To celebrate the release, Saint Victoire will headline the Sooki Lounge in Belgrave on Saturday, July 19, a homecoming of sorts for the band, and a first live performance of the studio version of 'The Mill'.

Fans of Fleetwood MacMaggie Rogers, and Angie McMahon will find themselves right at home in Saint Victoire’s universe, where vulnerability meets defiance, and heartbreak turns into harmony.
