Tamara & the Dreams Channels Rock Star Romance in New Single 'Fleetwood Mac'

Melbourne based indie artist Tamara & the Dreams has returned with a charmingly dramatic and emotionally layered new single, Fleetwood Mac” a nod to iconic rock band drama and the heartbreaks that fuel great songwriting. Tamara, who playfully describes herself as “your indie dream girl” has built a local following through her candid lyrics, vintage tinged melodies, and charismatic stage presence.

“I’m Tamara from Tamara & the Dreams, my first name is Tamara, middle is ‘and the’, last name is ‘Dreams', You can find me on pretty much every corner of the internet if you type in Tamara and the Dreams

Choosing a name like 'Fleetwood Mac' comes with a lot of cultural baggage, and Tamara embraces that head on.

“I truly believe no art is ever totally original, we make art in a beautiful soup of everything that’s come before us”

The track was inspired by her own life, evoking the emotional chaos often associated with the legendary band

“I was having a Fleetwood Mac sort of experience, so I thought it would be a cute way of getting my feelings out”

Compared to her earlier DIY releases, 'Fleetwood Mac' is a production leap.

“It took ages and ages to produce, there are heaps of different tempos, sections, instruments, harmonies, stuff I haven’t done before”

That layered complexity mirrors the song’s emotional tug of war, especially when it comes to dating dynamics within a creative setting.

“Beautiful tension is what I live for, everything worthwhile is born from it, the tension between who we are and who we want to be, between excitement and danger, between ourselves and others”

That inner friction can be seen throughout the track, giving it both its vulnerability and punch.

'Fleetwood Mac' leans into a retro, country rock sound, a style that Tamara calls her “bread and butter.” Her listening rotation while writing the song included Fleetwood Mac (of course), Elvis, and 50s/60s doo-wop, but also more unexpected inspirations.

“We couldn’t crack the drum beat until I found it in ‘MMMbop’ by Hanson”

Other touch points include; Shania TwainThe ChicksTaylor Swift, and the glam-pop of Chappell Roan

“I live for super campy country pop music"

At its core, 'Fleetwood Mac' is about turning emotional messiness into music.

“Getting hurt is only worth it if you make stuff out of it, take your broken heart and turn it into art”

It’s a relatable takeaway for anyone who’s ever had a bandmate crush, or just a crush that hurt a little too good.

While 'Fleetwood Mac' stands strong as a single, it’s also part of something bigger.

“Eventually it’ll be on my album, a sort of genre fluid mixtape of everything I love”

But don’t expect more retro country bangers, this one’s a standout.

“It’s definitely the only 'bangerific' camp retro country rock thing on there”
