The Dynamic Duo: Mayzie & Oceans Celebrate Success and New Beginnings with ‘Luminosity’

There’s no other way to say it, 2024 has been a monumental year for Mayzie & Oceans. This collaborative project has not only released two stunning singles, "Mess You Up" and "Luminosity", but has also dazzled audiences with countless live performances, produced two captivating music videos, and even graced the stage at the prestigious New Colossus Festival in New York. As if that weren’t enough, they’ve just wrapped up their first UK/EU tour and are now ready to unveil a brand new collection of music that is sure to turn heads.

Oceans has cultivated a loyal and ever growing fanbase, thanks to their distinctive interpretation of 90s shoe-gaze. They skillfully weave in darker, moodier elements of ambient music, new wave, and even post-punk. However, this new collection highlights the influence of core collaborator Mayzie, pushing their sound into exciting new territory. With a fresh blend of ethereal indie and dream pop, the result is nothing short of astonishing.

Describing their latest work, Thomas Lee from Oceans shares

“I was really listening to a lot of cheesy 80s/90s pop when I wrote these songs. I wanted it to sound like someone dug up an obscure Italo-disco track from decades back and reworked it to make it sound like something entirely different whilst maintaining the aesthetic of its origins.”

This nod to nostalgia, coupled with a modern twist, creates a sound that is both familiar and refreshing. Mayzie stated

“The mission statement was simple really, to try and harness our complementary skills into a record that was a bit more pop leaning than our separate previous works. I’m really drawn to good songwriting. The ability to tell a good story in an interesting way, through both the instrumentation and vocals, is the golden egg!”

The result of this collaboration is an album that stands as an example to their artistic journey an accomplished, glistening archetype that showcases a group thriving on creative and experimental freedom.

The 10 track album, which was recorded at Birdland Studios. It was produced, mixed, mastered by Lindsay Gravina (Jet, Magic Dirt, Adalita, Roland S. Howard).
