Set against the backdrop of a hauntingly beautiful piano progression, "What We Said" combines progressive storytelling with Vanarin’s signature psychedelic soundscapes. Lead vocalist David Paysden’s hypnotic delivery draws listeners into the song's narrative, reflecting on a fractured relationship and the questions never asked.

The track showcases Vanarin’s remarkable attention to detail, layering manipulated and pitched vocals reminiscent of The Beatles’ experimental phase, with a rhythmic sound compared to Tame Impala’s 'Currents'. The bass and guitar parts, vividly evocative of the 1960s, add further texture, creating a nostalgic yet innovative sonic experience.

Lyrically, "What We Said" captures the heartache of unanswered questions and unresolved emotions. The chorus resonates with its repeated plea:

“I don't know why you said that,
why you said that,
why you said what you said.”

The song further cements Vanarin’s reputation as a genre bending group. Since forming in 2016, the band has consistently blurred the lines between psych-pop and rock. With two full-length albums, 'Overnight' (2018) and 'Treading Water' (2022), and over 150 live performances, Vanarin has earned accolades on platforms like BBC6 and Selector Radio, establishing their place in the international music scene.

The album will find "What We Said" a worthy addition to the band’s growing discography. Beyond the song, Vanarin continues to demonstrate a commitment to innovation in both sound and emotion, a combination that ensures their enduring appeal in the psych-pop landscape.
