These rising stars have captivated audiences with their unique blend of infectious energy, powerful lyrics, and anthem rock riffs, breathing fresh life into the local music scene with each release.

This year’s BIGSOUND festival saw Worm Girlz transform the usually bustling Brunswick Street Mall into a celebration of colour, movement, and unity. Their presence has been a breath of fresh air in a scene often defined by chaos, grounding the space in joyful pride and positivity.

Their latest single, “Thinkin’ Bout”, is a tribute to the queer community, embracing what makes each member unique and inviting everyone to join in on their journey of self love and expression. The song is also a message for everyone feeling trapped by shame or fear, reminding them to take pride in who they are.

“As a lesbian, this song means so much to me, highlighting our fierce representation and honouring our vibrant experiences. This song is about embracing our true selves, thinking about the amazing girlz in our lives, and going bananas over them. Let’s go lesbians!”

Worm Girlz have been winning praise for their authentic and catchy songs since their debut. Luka Muller from Triple J Breakfast describes the band as

“Instantly catchy and familiar without feeling simple”

Worm Girlz are proving that their music resonates on a deep level. Their track “Not My Body” has even been called one of Australia’s new heart wrenching rock songs, standing alongside tracks like Ruby Fields' “Dinosaur” and Camp Cope's “The Opener”. The buzz isn’t just hype Worm Girlz are building a discography of memorable songs with a message.

Recorded and mixed by Lucas Montgomery, who has collaborated with Worm Girlz on previous releases, “Thinkin’ Bout” is a moody, dramatic anthem brought to life by gritty guitar riffs and magnetic chemistry between all five members. Every lyric is delivered with a precision and passion that could only come from a band deeply united in their mission.

“I’m grateful to be alive at a time where sapphic love is celebrated as beautiful and passionate. Writing this song and feeling safe to accept and celebrate this side of myself was incredibly liberating and sometimes feels like a big warm hug to my younger self.”

Since their debut in March 2023, Worm Girlz have wriggled into the hearts of fans across the East Coast of Australia. Their debut single, “Dirt” hit the airwaves with support from major stations like Triple J Unearthed, 4ZZZ, and PBS, gaining instant popularity. They've played at major festivals, including the renowned Laneway Festival and BIGSOUND, and shared stages with acts like Spiderbait, Betty Taylor, Platonic Sex, and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers.

The upcoming months are set to be just as exciting.
